Targus Validates DisplayLink v.8.4M0 for Windows

The DocKtors have validated the latest release version 8.4M0 (including Targus Universal Docking Station device drivers) for all DisplayLink-based Targus Universal Docking Stations on all version of Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 through Fall Creators Update build 16299. The software is available from targus.com and Windows Update for all Targus Universal Docking Stations.  Enterprise customers may also download the corporate version INF/MSI files from Targus.com.

The new software is reported as DisplayLink® Core Software (Windows 7 and 8.1) or DisplayLink Graphics Driver 8.4.3026.0 (Windows 10) at Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and in the DisplayLink task tray icon. And the individual devices show in the Device Manager as:

·            Network adapters:  Targus Ethernet as 8.4.2815.0

·            Sound, video, and game controllers: Targus Audio as 8.4.2952.0

·            Display adapters (Windows 10): Targus Docking Station (varies) as 8.4.3005.0

·            USB Display Adapters (Windows 7): Targus Docking Station (varies) as 8.4.3026.0

Validation with Targus Universal Docking Station Utilities

Version 8.4M0 has been put through a full system test and is suitable for deployment to end-users.  It has also been validated with all applicable Targus Utilities.  However, not every Targus Utility has been validated with every Targus Universal Docking Station on every Windows build or platform.  Please contact your Targus representative or DocKtor with questions.

  • Other Windows 10 Anniversary/(Fall) Creators Update performance and
    reliability improvements

Issues Fixed In 8.4M0

  • Windows 8.1 USB3 host controller driver compatibility check may fail on brand new driver
  • After unlocking PC with basic mode on Windows 7, monitor could stay black or display content could be corrupted
  • DisplayLink Manager service on Windows 7 could fail to start if Windows version in registry does not match OS installed
  • Ethernet MAC address cloning from registry might not work on selected US product IDs with 8.3 Mx driver
  • Headset may have a pop noise on DL-6950 based docking stations
  • Microphone autoswitch on connection may not always work on DL-6950 based docking stations
  • Monitors sending two different EDIDs in short succession when resuming from S4 sleep may not wake up
  • DisplayLink User Interface may crash if user clicks many times in very short succession on the system tray icon
  • Data misalignment could cause the encoding to fail in some cases for the DisplayLink DL-41xx series on Windows 10 Anniversary Update
